The Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa and Minister for Trade and Industry, K.T. Hammond, is advocating for the formal acknowledgment of his new title following his participation in the Hajj pilgrimage.

MP Hammond is pressing for the inclusion of ‘Alhaji’ in his name within the parliamentary records.

During a session in Parliament, he questioned the delay in announcing and recording his new title, stating, “I am the new Alhaji in Parliament; why has that not been announced and recorded?”

After the recent conclusion of the Hajj pilgrimage, which resulted in the emergence of new Alhajis and Hajias, including MP Hammond, he expressed disappointment that his new title had not been officially recognised upon his return from Saudi Arabia. He urged the parliamentary whip to rectify this oversight and ensure that the new titles are accurately documented.

Additionally, MP Hammond directed the Clerk to Parliament to update the official parliamentary documents to reflect his title as Alhaji. He emphasised the importance of ensuring that the records accurately represent the new names within the parliamentary setting.
