The 2024 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has touted the current Akufo-Addo government as the only government with the best employment record in the history of the fourth republic.
Dr. Bawumia who is seeking to succeed President Akufo-Addo and form his own government in 2025 made these statements during his Bold Solutions for the Future Vision speech on February 7, 2024.
According to him, it is a very remarkable feat to see that even during the difficult global economic crisis era, the government still employed more people into the public sector. He mentioned that the Akufo-Addo government from 2017 to 2022, has created 2.1 million jobs.
“What is probably the most remarkable development in terms of the economy is that our government has created 2.1 million jobs between 2017 and 2022 notwithstanding the global economic crisis,” he said.
Breaking down the numbers on job creation, Dr. Bawumia mentioned that, the public sector within the 2017 to 2022 period recruited 1.2 million people while the private sector created 975,000 jobs.
He also added that 100,000 more health workers and 100,000 more teachers were employed with Fire Service Personnel doubling up their numbers.
