President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has pledged to work collaboratively with Organised Labour and other key stakeholders. This agreement, reached in a recent meeting with the leadership of Organised Labour, marks an important moment in the ongoing struggle to protect Ghana’s natural resources and environment from the detrimental effects of unregulated mining activities.
Illegal mining has long been a thorn in Ghana’s side, causing severe environmental degradation and posing significant threats to the country’s water bodies and agricultural lands.
The economic implications are equally dire, as galamsey operations often bypass legal frameworks, resulting in lost revenue for the government.
Organised Labour’s involvement in this initiative is crucial, as it represents a broad spectrum of workers who are directly or indirectly affected by the consequences of illegal mining. Their participation not only brings valuable insights into the socio-economic dimensions of the issue but also strengthens the enforcement of mining regulations.
In a press release from the Ministry of Information on Monday October 7, 2024, outlined that President Akufo-Addo and Organised Labour has agreed to collaborate in the fight against illegal mining.
