Thousands of mourners have been queuing through the night to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth II, as she lies in state in Westminster Hall.
There are long queues of two miles along the South Bank of the River Thames and the queue is expected to build further
King Charles is spending the day at his country home, Highgrove.
The Prince and Princess of Wales will be in Sandringham later to look at floral tributes.
The Queen’s coffin was brought to Westminster Hall in a procession, with King Charles and Princes William and Harry walking behind.
The Queen’s funeral will be held on Monday 19 September, 2022.
BBC reports that the queue to pay respects to the Queen is indeed a long wait.
Some of the people are ”elderly veterans, proudly wearing their medals”.
”Others are young adults, politely paying their respects. Some bow, some close their eyes in contemplation.
There are many in tears as they pay tribute”.
The sombre and contemplative mood is one that is expected to continue for the next four days in the run-up to the state funeral.
